What's New
Breaking News:

Our first performance of 2009 is today (Saturday May 30) at ST. Rita's in Webster (1008 Maple Drive). We had an incorrect time on our event's page. We start at 6:00 PM, so if you don't want to miss the opening , please arrive at 6:00PM not 6:30 PM. Tonight's performance includes new band members Cedric, on guitar and Tom, on percussion. We are happy to see the return of our excellent horn section from last year: Nick, Mike, and Malcolm. This show kicks off the fourth performance season for Daniela, Lindsay, and Katie.

Past Years in Review:

2008

We have added another performance at the Fairport Cruz Night on September 9.

We'll post a recap of our interesting August performances, stay tuned!

Our most recent performance was in the Town of Williamson on July 16. This was our first performance in Wayne County in eight years. Williamson has a beautiful new library and it provided the setting for this show. We checked out the venue the previous week when hometown girl Emily Kaye gave a show stopping performance. About the only disadvantage of this venue is the lack of a roof over the performance area.

Well, we set up that day under a threatening sky. We readied tarpaulins for a possible deluge. Then the skies cleared about an hour before show time, all looked well, we had dodged a bullet. Fifteen minutes before we went on, and with a crowd of at least 300 people, someone in our entourage informed the band that just twenty miles to the west Rochester was experiencing thunder storms. The clouds began to fill the skies again, and then, forty-minutes into the show, it began to rain on us. Fortunately, this rain was sparse, we had just missed the storm as it passed to the south, and the skies cleared again. Now this may be coincidence, but during the rain the bass amp "blew up/fried." We tried to get the amplifier working again to no avail; fortunately we send the bass through the house PA system. We used the stage monitors so we could hear the bass on stage. The girls did a fantastic job covering while we had these technical difficulties. Thank you Williamson for a memorable show you were a great audience, also thanks to the Smiths and Jerry B. for making it to the show, you are awesome!

The group performed the Fairport Cruz night on July 8. It was another bad night to play outdoors with temperatures hovering around 90 degrees combined with Upstate New York's famous high humidity. Well, at least it didn't rain this time. Cars stayed away due to the heat -- I guess classic cars don't work well in heat -- but the folks in Fairport settled in for an IT'S MY PARTY! concert. All in all it was not a bad night. Thanks to the folks vacationing on the canal who helped us unload our equipment.

June performance dates included the Fairport Cruz Night in Fairport, the skies opened around an hour before the show, which didn't encourage the car enthusiasts to bring out their wheels. Thanks to Tony for letting the group play to the audience members who braved the rain. Talk about true fans! On June 27 the Bella Lago show in Canandaigua was indoors as part of the Canandaigua "Fourth Fridays." Bella Lago was build in the '40s, it's a real gem that will most likely one day see the wrecking ball in the interest of "progress"; recall the demise of Roseland Park. Again the day's event saw 90 degree weather and humid conditions. Oliver Blitz played outside until 9:30 and then we took over inside around 9:45. The intimate audience seemed appreciative.

We'd like to thank Marty Natchez for arranging a telephone interview between John Giotto, the producer of IT'S MY PARTY! and Eddie Rambeau, co-songwriter of "Kiss Me Sailor," and singer of the hit cover of "Concrete and Clay." We will have an edited version of the interview available on our website shortly. Thanks again to our good friend Marty Natchez for making this happen!

Our first show of the season was on June 6 at St. Rita in Webster. Thanks to all who attended on an oppressive hot and muggy night. There are new photos from the St. Rita show at our photos link. We are excited about this summer's performances and we would like to welcome Eric Romano as our new guitarist. If you make it to our next show on June 17 in Fairport, be sure to say hi to Eric and welcome him to the group.

Our final summer performance in Honeoye, NY on August 31 was a success. Over 400 people attended the show on a perfect night. Thanks go out to Wendy and the rest of the committee for inviting us this year. Once again, CD sales of R.S.V.P. were brisk.

The August 28 "Fairport Cruz Night" show sure was interesting. Usually we start at 6:30 and play until 8:00, however while our crew was setting up that afternoon; they learned that the organizers of the event added a dog drill team demonstration at 7:00 to the show. As planned, our very talented soundman, Mike Zanche, kicked off the show at 6:00. Mike's on stage persona is Project Scooby, an all original venture. We made a quick decision to have Project Scooby play for about forty-five minutes, instead of the originally planned twenty-minute set, filling the void before the dog team exhibition. At seven O'clock, the dog drill team from Rochester, NY went through its routine. The dogs were great, adding a new flavor to the night, and after all, spontaneous events such as these are what make for a good story down the road. We began around seven-thirty and played until nine O'clock. It seemed to all work out well in the end, what a night, and crowd. Fairport has been so very receptive to us, and this show was no exception. Thanks to all of you who attended and to those who purchased our CD; see you next year!

Thank you Doug "The Pooch" Pucci, host of "Hopes and Dreams," at WLGZ-Legends 990AM for spinning "Silhouettes."

Thank you DJ Stu, host of "The Pop Shoppe," at Top Shelf Oldies for the generous forty-five minute interview with IT'S MY PARTY!

Three of the musicians in Sophisticated Boom Boom, It's My Party's backing band, went to the Marshfield Fair, in Marshfield Massachusetts, on August 18. Hosts Ed and George of WATD's Yesterday's Memories assembled a solid line up of artists. The Wing-it Band, the backing ensemble for all of the acts, kicked off the show with a solid performance. Torri, a local high school girl, belted out several great tunes, including "You Baby," originally done by the Turtles. Next up were the Tutti-Fruitties, a girl group similar to IT'S MY PARTY!, these teens gave a strong performance, which included a show-stopping rendition of "Thank You and Goodnight," originally performed by The Angels. Next to perform were our producer's favorite girl group, The Pixies Three. The choreography was tight, and so were the harmonies. "442 Glenwood Avenue," "Gee," and "Birthday Party" rocked. The show concluded with the Boston local, Freddy "Boom, Boom" Cannon.

What fantastic back-to-back nights the group had at Fairport's Kennelly Park Gazebo and Canandaigua's Commons Park. According to the Canandaigua officials, it was their largest crowd of the year. We appreciate all of you who purchased a copy of R.S.V.P. at these shows, enjoy!

Something funny happened at our first 2007 performance on June 2, the drumset actually toppled over during the penultimate song of the night. It was a awkward moment as the drummer struggled to right the kit for the final song, while the girls did their best to stall for time. If you have seen the movie That Thing You Do!, The Wonders had a similar experience when they played in Pittsburgh.

One story to pass along about a particular recording session for the new CD. It was on January 16, during the recording of vocals when the studio experienced a power failure. Every one remained calm, and cell phones were impressed into service as flashlights. The power came back on quickly; we found out later that evening that the power loss was due to a train derailment about two miles from the recording studio. Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident.
